Last work before she's gone...

The car is sold and she is going to San Francisco. I have to do some work for the new owner before shipping it. I continue this blog to keep him posted about the work being done.

I was testing all the buttons and found out that the blower was not working anymore. I've removed the fender and opened the housing...

Looks like I had a tenant for a while.

I've tested the motor and lubed it. It is working perfectly.

I have also changed the rubber piece connecting the housing to the firewall.

Clean, back together and working.

The fender back on.

Trunk liner...

I have started to glue the trunk line in place. After lunch I've noticed that the glue/fumes had seeped through the felt onto the vinyl. I was hoping that after the glue had dried the vinyl will shrink to its original shape, which happened as the following pictures will show.

I've change my strategy and used contact glue on the body and 3M 90 spray on glue on the vinyl...

... worked perfectly as you can see on the upper part:

Trimming the vinyl...

After trimming, the felt behind the vinyl was showing. I've use flat black enamel to paint the felt. The enamel being a slow drying paint allowed me to clean the vinyl easily with white spirit.

The manufacturer of the kit did not provide enough material to cover the sway bar cover; I have kept the original vinyl on it.

I've kept the bottom vinyl loose to be able to monitor any rust forming over time. Also, if some water or moisture gets in, it will be easy to let the vinyl dry.

I have repainted the hardware for the trunk light and installed it. Unfortunately the plastic cover (Over the bulb) was missing when I bought the car; I have to get one.

A little polishing on the Seima switch won't hurt.

Finished!

Brake accumulator.

I've never touched the brake accumulator since I've owned the car. Still looks new but the bladder was bad; the sphere was full of fluid.

I've install a new ball...

... and it is ready to be rebuilt by David (Cossit-Levy).

Rubber skirts

I have installed brand new rubber skirts that I've ordered from France after the accident.

The skirt was rubbing against the exhaust, which is bad for the rubber and paint...

... after some customization:

Done! Ready to put back the bumper.

Rear bumper.

I found a used bumper but it was banged up with deep scratches.

The small screws broke due to rust.

Not an easy part top hold on a vise.

Before drilling...

... after tapping.

The lower part was also banged up with deep scratches...

It was a deep groove on the upper part...

... after some hammering, filing and sanding.

I've used a torch to put the brackets back in shape. Pretty tough job to get the right angles again.

After sanding the upper part with 80, 220, 320, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1500 and 2000 grid paper, it is time for polishing; many hours of sanding and polishing.

Stating on the lower part. I'm trying to get the curve right in comparison with the other side.

Here are the tools I've used so far. Time to start sanding...

After many hours of sanding, I'm starting to get a shine again.

Time to attack the left side with sand paper.

Once the bumper is sanded with a 2000 grid, I have to spend a few hours polishing it. Here is the result once finished:
